The first day off!

Friday 12th August 2011

Although we have only just started, it was time today for our first day off of the season.  It was a busy day, however, with the regular Friday visit to the local souq in order to stock up on vegetables and chickens for the coming week - especially since our team will nearly double by Tuesday!!  This afternoon we also paid a visit to an old friend in a nearby village, taking with us a package of Ramadan sweets, and we had a nice relaxing couple of hours talking about our past work together!  Some amusing anecdotes!  The remainder of the day was quickly filled up with washing in our super-duper automatic and writing a contribution for a conference proceedings … nearly finished!!

So, tomorrow we head up to the site for 6am to meet our workers and to prepare for the arrival of Kris Strutt.  We will head into Cairo to meet Kris and come directly to site on Sunday morning to start our geophysical survey - it should be a very exciting week and Kris will hopefully join us again, later in September, to participate in the field school - which would be great for all concerned!
