Sobek el-Dahak
Wednesday 24th August 2011
We returned today for a brief visit to the town of Sobek el-Dahak, having visited to conduct drill cores during the spring season. Unfortunately today, there were no suitable fields or areas in which we could look for archaeological material, however, we will have the opportunity to return when the sweet corn crop is harvested in the next two weeks - as with el-Rimaly. Our early return from work gave us the opportunity to catch up on some chores in the house and also shopping for supplies. It also allowed us plenty of time to prepare for Iftar, and the visit of two local colleagues, one of whom kindly arrived early to help. We even managed to locate the ingredients for the local sweet dish called connefer, which is a Ramadan speciality! It was the first time that I had seen a machine making connefer!
It turned out to be a very lively evening, with the young sons of one of our colleagues joining us! They certainly kept us on our toes, but it was great to see them!
